Job Title: Director of Information Technology and Security
Reports to: Superintendent

Primary Purpose:
Direct and manage the district’s technology infrastructure, systems, cybersecurity program, and bond-related technology initiatives to support instructional and operational goals. Provide leadership in the planning, implementation, and maintenance of all technology systems while ensuring the security, integrity, and availability of district data. Oversee compliance with state and federal requirements related to data privacy, cybersecurity, and technology components of district construction and renovation projects.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification: - Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field (required) - Master’s degree in a related field (preferred) - Industry certifications such as CISSP, CISM, Security+, or equivalent (preferred)
Special Knowledge/Skills: - Knowledge of K–12 technology systems, including student information systems, instructional software, and network infrastructure
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., NIST, CIS Controls)
- Experience with network administration, cloud services, and data management
- Knowledge of E-Rate, technology funding, and compliance requirements
- Ability to manage complex projects and budgets
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to respond effectively to security incidents and emergencies
Experience: - Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT management or network administration
- Experience in a leadership or supervisory role (preferred)
- Experience in a public school district or governmental entity (preferred)
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Technology Leadership and Management: - Develop and implement a comprehensive district technology plan aligned with instructional and operational goals
- Oversee the design, installation, and maintenance of all district technology systems, including networks, servers, devices, and software
- Supervise and evaluate technology department staff
- Coordinate technology support services to ensure timely resolution of issues
- Collaborate with district leadership to support instructional technology integration
Cybersecurity and Data Protection: - Develop, implement, and maintain a district-wide cybersecurity program
- Monitor systems for vulnerabilities and respond to cybersecurity threats and incidents
- Ensure compliance with state and federal data privacy laws, including FERPA and Texas Education Agency requirements
- Conduct regular risk assessments and security audits
- Provide cybersecurity awareness training for staff
Infrastructure and Systems Management: - Maintain reliable and secure network infrastructure, including wired and wireless systems
- Oversee data backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning
- Manage cloud-based and site-based systems and services
- Ensure proper lifecycle management of hardware and software
- Plan for scalability of infrastructure to support enrollment growth and new facilities
Bond Projects and Infrastructure Development: - Collaborate with district leadership, architects, engineers, and construction managers to plan and implement technology components of bond projects
- Design and oversee installation of network infrastructure, cabling, security systems, and instructional technology in new and renovated facilities
- Ensure all technology systems are aligned with district standards and long-term strategic plans
- Manage vendors and contractors related to technology infrastructure projects
- Monitor project timelines, budgets, and deliverables to ensure the successful completion of technology components
- Provide technical input on facility design to ensure adequate power, data, wireless coverage, and security infrastructure
- Oversee integration of safety and security systems such as cameras, access control, and emergency communication systems
Budget and Resource Management: - Develop and manage the technology department budget
- Oversee purchasing, inventory, and asset management of technology equipment
- Manage E-Rate applications and other funding opportunities
Policy and Compliance: - Develop and enforce policies and procedures related to technology use and cybersecurity
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and district policies
- Maintain documentation related to systems, processes, and security protocols
Communication and Collaboration: - Serve as a liaison between the technology department and district stakeholders
- Communicate technology initiatives and updates to staff and leadership
- Provide technical expertise to support district decision-making
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervise technology staff, including network administrators, technicians, and support personnel (as assigned)
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
- Maintain emotional control under stress
- Frequent district-wide travel
- Occasional prolonged and irregular hours
- Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds)
- Work with frequent interruptions
Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with district policy and administrative procedures.
